Pectoral Muscle Removal in Digital Mammograms Using Region Based Standard Otsu Technique

چکیده

Mammography is usually the first preference of imaging diagnostic modalities used for detection breast cancer in early stage. Two projections Cranio Caudal (CC) and Medio-Lateral Oblique (MLO) which depict different degrees visualizing are during digital mammogram acquisition MLO view shows more tissue Pectoral Muscle (PM) area when compared to CC view. Although, PM a criterion show proper positioning, it can result biased results mammographic analysis like: density estimation, because has similar or even higher intensity than lesions if present. This paper proposed Region Based Standard Otsu thresholding method elimination present mammograms. The algorithm was implemented using 322 mammograms from Mammographic Image Analysis Society (MIAS) database, difference between detected manually drawn region by an expert evaluated. showed average: Jaccard Similarity Index, False Positive Rate (FPR) Negative (FNR) 93.2%, 3.54% 5.68% respectively also acceptable rate 95.65%

Removal of Pectoral Muscle Region in Digital Mammograms using Binary Thresholding

The pectoral muscle represents a predominant density region in Medio-Lateral Oblique (MLO) views of mammograms, which appears at approximately the same density as the dense tissues of interest in the image and can affect the results of image analysis methods. Therefore, segmentation of pectoral muscle is important in order to limit the search for the breast abnormalities only to the breast regi...

Automatic Identification and Elimination of Pectoral Muscle in Digital Mammograms

Computer aided detection/diagnosis aims at assisting radiologist in the analysis of digital mammograms. Digital mammogram has emerged as the most popular screening technique for early detection of breast cancer and other abnormalities in human breast tissue. The pectoral muscle represents a predominant density region in most mammograms and can affect/bias the results of image processing methods...

Segmentation of the Breast Region with Pectoral Muscle Removal in Mammograms

Breast region segmentation is an essential prerequisite in computerised analysis of mammograms. It aims at separating the breast tissue from the background of the mammogram and it includes two independent segmentations. The first segments the background region which usually contains annotations, labels and frames from the whole breast region, while the second removes the pectoral muscle portion...

Pectoral muscle identification in mammograms

In most of the approaches of computer-aided detection of breast cancer, one of the preprocessing steps applied to the mammogram is the removal/suppression of pectoral muscle, as its presence within the mammogram may adversely affect the outcome of cancer detection processes. Through this study, we propose an efficient automatic method using the watershed transformation for identifying the pecto...

Breast Segmentation with Pectoral Muscle Suppression on Digital Mammograms

Previous works on breast tissue identification and abnormalities detection notice that the feature extraction process is affected if the region processed is not well focused. Thereby, it is important to split the mammogram into interesting regions to achieve optimal breast parenchyma measurements, breast registration or to put into focus a technique when we search for abnormalities. In this pap...
